18 November 2020 (New York): Guinness World Records (GWR) hosts its annual celebration of record-breaking, GWR Day, on 18 November 2020, buoyed by the response from people around the world looking to unite in a positive, shared experience following a difficult year for many.
To spotlight as many record-breaking achievements as possible, GWR’s digital event – 24 Hours of Record-Breaking – will commemorate the creativity, dedication, and passion of people around the world following a year of lockdown and restrictions.
GWR Day 2020 will feature record attempts from all over the world, including: Canada, Australia, Japan, China, India, Bahrain, Dubai, UK, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, USA, and Mexico.
In the USA, sports and entertainment legends, the Harlem Globetrotters hold a total of 24 Guinness World Records titles. They have spent much of their year at home following cancelled tours and shows due to the pandemic. After months of practise to enhance their skills, see if talented players, Deandre “Dragon” Taylor, Rochelle “Wham” Middleton, and Lucius “Too Tall” Winston make history with titles such as the farthest behind-the-back basketball shot, highest throw and catch of a spinning basketball, and most bounced basketball figure eight moves in one minute.
The #GWRchallenge
If you want to get involved – it is not too late. The #GWRchallenge allows participation from potential history-makers to put their skills to the test with the Most star jumps in 30 seconds.
First held in 2004 to mark the Guinness World Records annual becoming the best-selling copyright book of all time, GWR Day has inspired some now iconic record-breaking achievements. This year, over 1,000 applications were received from aspiring record breakers across the world, hoping to attempt records on GWR Day and secure their place in the next edition of the book and history.
